What color of rug should I get?

I’m redecorating my kids room. My daughter and son are sharing their room and I’m redoing the room half girlie and half boyish. Her side will have pink and purple with gold trimmings and his side with have red and blue (spiderman fan, maybe some black on his side cuz he also loves the black spiderman). I intend on buying one large area rug for the room and I’m having problems deciding what color would best fit for both sides. What neutral color might fits best or should I look for a rug that has all the colors of the room on it. Although I’m afraid if I got a rug like that, that the room would look to busy. Please voice your opinions.

    I nice soft colored oriental area rug would be just the thing.

    Or you may get a brightly colored cartoon character rug for your children.
